I work at an Apple VAR. While at work, I’ve noticed that 12″ PowerBook G4 owners consistently pick up the MacBook Air within 3 minutes of entering the store. The only word for the look in their eyes is lust. I like to jokingly refer to the 12″ as the original Air.

There are a number of comments I hear on a regular basis.
Here they are in order of frequency

It’s so tiny! – with a look of awe
It’s beautiful! – but…

But it has no optical drive – Several time a day
It looks really fragile
Too Expensive – Almost every time anyone looks at it
It’s like a really fancy looking MacBook
How much for the SSD version!?
No FireWire – Just a hand full of times, and it made me smile

Bleh! Here’s a new one that I really appreciated.

2 GB max Ram? Why not 4GB!? – I heard it for the first time today

4GB and no upgrade path is just fine for a machine that people will use many years. Just like those wide eyed 12″ PowerBook owners. Those machines are 2-5 years old, and most of them are early revisions.

I hope to get my wish sometime in 2009.
