iTunes 8 First Impressions

So far I like what I see. Despite the fact that the Artwork for my movies collection is now gone. I suppose this is because my movies reside on an external HDD that was not plugged in when I updated.

This also makes a certain developers comments about Apple liking his Apps interface so much that they used it in iTunes actually make sense. Whether he new about grid view or not.

2 more points for iPhone

Two Reasons I’m ready to jump on the iPhone bandwagon.

Live and Evolve

Windows 7 and gestures looks like more of the same, but a bit better.

Why do so many FanBoys get pissed at the very thought of feature replication? I say bring it on, and that’s coming from a “my income is directly linked to Apple’s market performance,” perspective.

I say Live and Let Evolve. If Apple can compete great, if not let them Die.

Ballmer was nearly spot on with…

“There’s a lot in Windows 7, and our goal’s got to be, with our hardware partners, to produce fantastic PCs. … We’ll sell 270m PCs a year, and Apple will sell 10m. Apple is fantastically successful, and so are we.”

* 270/10 is 27%!!! | “Fantastic PCs”

Patents exist to encourage invention, and any press is good press.

Wait, there’s more!

10.5.3 and All is Well

Just updated, everything is cool so far.

I am completely confused @ what is public & what is not, in regards to the SDK.

Where are the release notes?

Sincerely,

Kern’s Crazy Clown Const. INC. (neHAY HAY HAY!!!)

Here are those release notes

Cocoa Programming 3.0

Just received delivery of Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X 3rd Edition.

I’ve flipped through and briefly compared the 2nd and 3rd editions. The two books are very similar yet I feel very comfortable with my purchase. The new edition sports a more subtle cover design, as well as Aaron’s spiffy new haircut. Here’s a quick blurb from the back.

“Updated for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5, this revised edition includes coverage of Xcode 3, Objective-C 2, Core Data, the garbage collector, and CoreAnimation.”

The best part….

The 2nd Edition is 450 pages in length.
The 3rd Edition is 433 pages or 17 pages shorter! This speaks volumes to me about the time, effort and skill poured into this book.

We Need Boxes!

The argument against boxed copies has been clearly made, and I completely agree with the popular assessment. That said Indies are missing the boat. A boat filled with users who need workable solutions now, are more than happy to pay and have never even heard of your product.

I work at an Apple Value Added Reseller, and currently have no monetary impetus to push your product. Why must I shoot myself in the foot? I desperately want to sell your products, but I need a few things from you the developer.

Give Me….

A shrink wrapped box for customers to physically examine.
2 free serials, 1 to demo & 1 to sell.
30-50% reseller discount, I’ll sell at MSRP.
Disc & DVD case cover TIFFs for on demand printing.

I Will….

Burn your latest build.
Print an on demand boxed copy of your app.
Sell your app for a profit.
Pay you cash money.

You Get….

An untapped market.
Mindshare???
Profit!!!

Your Box…

DVD case with icon and app name on front.
Screenshots, sales pitch, system requirements and price on back.
Icon and name on the spine.
Make it weigh something.
Shrink wrap that puppy.

Help me stop the spread of CrapWare! They’ve got the shelf space, and for about $5 you can too. Should I sell just 1 copy, you’ll be ahead of the game.

Speechless

“Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. This requires not that the writer make all sentences short or avoid all detail and treat subjects only in outline, but that every word tells.”

Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X (3 ed)

It would seem Aaron Hillegass’ latest revision of Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X is about to hit the shelves. The available date seems to have moved up a few days as well.

If your looking for…

An exhaustive Cocoa reference
an excellent tutorial book for Objective-C

a great introduction to Cocoa programming, buy this book!

Update on Black Crowes

I was never really all that into the Crowes. Not to say I don’t like the band, but they don’t make my Favorites playlist very often. They absolutely ROCK!!! (live)

Sadly, I didn’t notice that my ticket stub was in fact a $10 gambling voucher until it was to late to cash it in for $10 (24hr window). Should I attend another concert at RiverWind, I’ll be sure to test this one out. Can you say $10 dollar rebate? :)

Black Crowes

8:00 tonight, the Black Crowes will be in Norman, OK. Tickets are way too expensive, so only go if you’re a big fan that somehow missed the announcement until now.

More info at Riverwind.com.

National Council of Gambling Problems website if you already know where the casino is located.

technorati

I just linked my site to technorati. Hopefully the process will be over shortly.

Delicious POS

Point Of Sale! Get your mind out of the gutter!)

I want a stand-alone bar code scanner App for use in Checkout 2.0.
Cheap barcode scanners start at more than a $100.
So the price could be $40-80, and customers would still bite.

Wireless scanners start at more than a thousand $$$$.
A Cocoa Touch barcode scanner app could sell like hotcakes.

Oh, and I want a camera in the iPod Touch, Why wasn’t it there in the first place!?

It sounds as though Delicious Library 2.0 will retail for $40, and Delicious Library Pro for $80.
Priced right, Delicious POS wouldn’t cannibalize Delicious Library 2.0 sales.

it’s a Delish beta

A del.icio.us client that displays previews of your tagged web pages.

The interface is drop dead simple and attractive. The first time I ran Delish, I was prompted to enter my del.icio.us account info. Then Delish started creating great looking webpage thumbnails.

A lot a pages don’t ever get their thumbnail. This I’m sure will be addressed in future versions of Delish. It’s only in beta 4 after all. It did have me scratching my head for a moment. Or maybe I just need some Selson Blue.

Used in conjunction with Pukka, this really ties things together. Making del.icio.us seem like just another part of my Mac, not some distant cloud. I also realized how badly I need to trim and sort my tags.

So check it out. Should you find yourself using it go click that “i use this” button.

MacBook Heir to 12″

I work at an Apple VAR. While at work, I’ve noticed that 12″ PowerBook G4 owners consistently pick up the MacBook Air within 3 minutes of entering the store. The only word for the look in their eyes is lust. I like to jokingly refer to the 12″ as the original Air.

There are a number of comments I hear on a regular basis.
Here they are in order of frequency

It’s so tiny! – with a look of awe
It’s beautiful! – but…

But it has no optical drive – Several time a day
It looks really fragile
Too Expensive – Almost every time anyone looks at it
It’s like a really fancy looking MacBook
How much for the SSD version!?
No FireWire – Just a hand full of times, and it made me smile

Bleh! Here’s a new one that I really appreciated.

2 GB max Ram? Why not 4GB!? – I heard it for the first time today

4GB and no upgrade path is just fine for a machine that people will use many years. Just like those wide eyed 12″ PowerBook owners. Those machines are 2-5 years old, and most of them are early revisions.

I hope to get my wish sometime in 2009.

Ninja Gaiden – Dragon Sword

Some people say it’s to short. Maybe there right, but I disagree. This Sword cuts up screen protectors as though they were old shoes. You will experience E Honda syndrome, then you will learn the way of the sword. This game would have been an also ran on ANY other system, with the possible exception of the Wii.
4 stars

Eagles of Death Metal

If you love Queens of the Stoneage, you will wanna doggie style these 2 albums! Dissonant, jacked, fast, furious and beautiful. This music will make your hips move despite that nagging dysplasia.

Shake some tail feather baby.

5 stars, because crap that gets less than 4 stars will not appear on this page.
